Off Road Therapy

Perspective. I’m not sure where I’m going with this but bear with me. It dawned on me this morning how much we think that we all lead similar lives, with similar experiences and similar thoughts. A story came up on the Today Show this morning where one of the hosts asked “What is REI?”…and I thought how interesting that someone wouldn’t know what that was. Of course I live in the “West”, where being in the outdoors is just part of living here.

I recently had a conversation out in California about perspective..and how things that affect the folks in Cali really don’t matter to the folks back East…and vice versa. The daily lives of the folks in the West are different in many ways from the lives of those in the East…of course some things are similar, but a lot of things are not. How many times have you travelled somewhere and wonder where your favorite grocery store is?

When we tell a story, I think we forget about the perspective of the audience. We think they will understand what we are saying, but unless they have experiences to relate to us they miss the point…they don’t “get it”.

As Jeepers and off road enthusiasts, we share that common bond, that perspective. We understand what it means to get away…to disconnect…to explore things outside of our daily routines…but so many others don’t ever get that opportunity…and I think thats unfortunate. My hope is that this giving season, we share our perspective and our passion and that hopefully a few of the “less fortunate” get a chance to experience what we already know.

Thanks for listening to me ramble…and this is the story that sparked my thoughts…we should all disconnect once in a while…its that mental health thing…and I think this applies to everyone, not just moms!
