Texas classes generally are not run in July/August due to the heat

Why take a class from Offroading101.com? We remember what it was like to show up to our FIRST EVER off road event. Our anxiety level was high as we did not know what to expect and did not want to damage our rig. Would we be the one to hold up the group? Would our questions be stupid? How do I go over the obstacle that the person in front of me just went over? Will I damage my rig? At what point will the rig flip over on me? How/why did I just complete the obstacle that someone directed me over? Will I be able to drive my rig home after the event? Does the person helping me have my best interest in mind? So many more questions……

This class is designed to provide the personal attention to EACH driver and answer all those questions with a combination of a group and personal setting! This is NOT a follow me class and is a great opportunity for the person that is shy as well as the person that is outgoing so that we can all learn and minimize that awkward feeling of being the new person on the trail. Once the class is complete, you will have that comfort level to be able to join others on the trail and have the confidence to keep up….and maybe even lead and not damage your rig! See the types of classes we offer down below: Levels 101, 201, 301, 401 & private.

See pictures of our previous classes on Facebook

Current class counts as of 14-Nov-2023 is 676 Students!

New classes are alwas being posted up. Keep an eye out on the schedule.

Spotters 101

While this class is offered, usually twice a year, it is designed to give you the basics of what to start looking for to safely navigate obstacles. A great spotter is one who has a significant amount of seat time (years of experience). We will start you down the road of what to be aware of when outside the rig. This is always a good skill to learn when you wheel with a group.

Now you have a bit of wheeling experience under your belt, you will want to understand what a good spotter thinks about. Being on the other side of the wheel and responsible for getting a rig safely thru an obstacle is huge and can be very intimidating. This class is a way to get on the otherside and learn how to look at the whole picture to see what you need to be aware of when spotting a driver. We will put you directly into the spotters seat (with us at your side) to work with you to see the differences of each rig, what to look for, the lines, how to predict what will happen and stay calm when things seem like they are getting sketchy. This will be a great class for those of you that want to learn more about the ins/outs of what to look for, how to lead and utilize others to help you be successful. This will build your self confinence in off roading and how to work with other people. This will be a smaller class size so that we can give you the benefit of our experience and get thru as many different situations as possile. While there is no substitute for seat time and experience, this class will start you down the road of understanding what you need to think about when spotting.

We strongly suggest that you have completed the Offroading101, 201 and the 301 classes (or similar), have your recovery gear with you and ready to go, be familiar with how to use the gear and a GMRS radio.

Our approach combines theory with practice, starting with a discussion on key concepts followed by demonstrations and hands-on experience. You’ll learn about sway bar utilization, line selection, recovery gear (with an emphasis on practical application), planning for contingencies, and much more. Additionally, we’ll delve deeper into off-road essentials such as air compressors, trail etiquette, vehicle dynamics, and effective use of recovery tools.

The class culminates with a group activity, offering a prime opportunity for a controlled vehicle recovery exercise. This hands-on session not only tests your newly acquired skills but also encourages teamwork and problem-solving.

To wrap up the day, we’ll gather for group and individual photos—a chance to reflect on your achievements and discuss any new questions that arise.
