Onewheel Adventure

Onewheel Adventure

My Onewheel Adventure:

Day 1: A Wobbly Start to My Onewheel Journey (31-Jan-2026)

Embarking on a new adventure is always exciting, but let’s be real—it’s also a little intimidating. My journey with the Onewheel Pint started with a mix of curiosity and a healthy dose of nervous energy. Rather than diving in headfirst with a brand-new model, I decided to play it smart (and budget-friendly) by purchasing a used one. My goal? Learn how to ride without breaking the bank—or my bones.

Getting Started: Baby Steps Around the Pool Table

I kicked off my Onewheel adventure with low expectations and a pool table as my trusty companion. Using it as a stable reference point, I began the process of simply standing on the board and figuring out my balance. Within half an hour, I had achieved my first milestone: standing up and dismounting without any issues. It sounds small, but at the time, it felt like a huge win. After gaining some initial confidence, I spent about 45 minutes practicing slow, controlled movements around the table while holding onto the edge for support. The goal here was simple: get a feel for the board, understand how to move forward, and attempt gentle turns. By the two-hour mark, I was navigating the area around the table with more precision and even managing my speed. Progress!

Pain Points (Literally)

While the day was an overall success, it wasn’t without its challenges. I quickly discovered that riding a Onewheel isn’t just a balance game—it’s also a workout. My feet, especially the arches, began to ache after some time, and my calf muscles felt the strain of trying to stay steady. These aches were unexpected but tolerable, and I’m hoping they’ll ease as I improve.Oh, and the falls? Just one! Considering this was my very first attempt, I’ll call that a win.

Wrapping Up Day 1

As I sit here writing this, my feet are sore, my calves are tired, and I couldn’t be happier. Today was all about laying the foundation, and I feel like I’m off to a great start. The real test will be how I feel tomorrow after a night’s rest, but for now, I’m excited to continue this journey. Here’s to more wobbly adventures ahead—stay tuned!

Day 2: Gear Up and Hit the Street

After yesterday’s wobbly but exciting start, I woke up feeling the aftermath in my feet and calves—they were sore. It’s no surprise, though; learning to ride a Onewheel isn’t just about balance—it’s a full-body workout I wasn’t entirely prepared for. Today’s mission? Take my first ride on the street. But this time, I was fully prepared with all the safety gear: helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. I might look like I’m gearing up for battle, but better safe than sorry, right?

The First Ride on the Street

With soft sneakers on, I hopped on the board, feeling both excited and a little nervous. The plan was simple: ride around my neighborhood and see how far I could go. Well, I didn’t make it far—just about six blocks before I called it a day.The biggest challenge? My feet. The arches were killing me after every couple hundred feet. I found myself stopping every 200 feet just to stretch them out. Was it frustrating? A little, but I turned each stop into a learning opportunity. I practiced stopping the board and dismounting, which gave me some much-needed confidence in handling the basics.

Small Wins and Lessons Learned

Even though I only completed 0.6 miles today, I still consider it a success. Every ride, no matter how short, is helping me build the skills and endurance I’ll need to improve. Plus, I didn’t fall—so that’s another win in my book! One thing I’ve realized is that riding a Onewheel is as much about mental determination as it is about physical stamina. The soreness and discomfort will pass, but the progress I’m making, little by little, is what keeps me motivated.

Day 3: A Game-Changing Discovery (2-Feb-2026)

Today was a big step forward in my Onewheel journey literally and figuratively. For the first time, I managed to go around the block twice! The first round was solo, and the second was with the dog. While it felt like progress, my feet were still giving me trouble during the first lap. I had to stop frequently to stretch and rest them, which was starting to get frustrating. But then, I made a small adjustment that changed everything.

The Shoe Swap: A Game-Changer

After struggling with foot pain again, I decided to stop and think about what could be causing it. That’s when it hit me: my shoes! I had been using soft, flexible sneakers, which seemed fine at first, but they weren’t doing my feet any favors. So, I swapped them out for a pair of trail shoes, stiffer and much more supportive. Wow, what a difference it made! I can’t emphasize enough how much this small change improved my ride. With the trail shoes, I was able to do the second block with the dog and only stopped once. I felt more stable, more comfortable, and way less fatigued. Honestly, I’m surprised I hadn’t seen anyone mention the importance of shoes in my research. If you’re starting out, don’t overlook your footwear!

Progress in Balance and Confidence

Another win today was how much easier balancing felt. I’m still working on it, but I can tell that it’s becoming more natural. I have a feeling it’s partly muscle memory kicking in from my (long-ago) sports days. It’s encouraging to see little bits of my past coordination coming back, it’s like unlocking an old skill you didn’t know you still had. I’m also noticing that riding daily is helping me build consistency and confidence. It’s not just about getting better at the physical techniques; it’s also about building the mental determination to keep pushing forward, even when it’s tough.

Support from the Community

I have to say, one of the things that’s really keeping me motivated is the support I’m getting from the Onewheel community. Even at my age, I’m feeling nothing but encouragement and positivity from people who understand the ups and downs of this journey. It’s a great reminder that learning something new is always worth it—no matter where you are in life.

Looking Ahead

With today’s progress, I’m more excited than ever to keep riding and sharing my experiences. My goal is to ride daily and document the successes, failures, and lessons I learn along the way. Hopefully, my journey can provide some insight for anyone out there who’s just starting their own Onewheel adventure. Stay tuned for Day 4. I’m growing more confident with every ride!

Day 4: A Rainy Day of Rest

Not every day is going to be full of progress, and today was one of those days. The rain kept me from riding much, which was a bit of a disappointment, but I decided to lean into the opportunity to rest and recover. My feet and legs are still sore, but the good news is they’re a little less achy than they were yesterday. Progress comes in all forms, even in small doses. Even though I couldn’t spend much time on the Onewheel, I still made the most of the day with a short walk alongside my dog. It was a nice way to stay active—sometimes it’s good to step back, take it slow, and let your body recover.

Day 6: First Fall and Major Progress

The past couple of days have been full of ups and downs—literally. A couple of days ago, I had my first fall while riding at a slow speed on pavement. It was scary, but my safety gear and knowledge of how to fall kept me safe. No injuries, just a bit of shaken confidence that I quickly worked to rebuild. In my earlier rides, I couldn’t go farther than 0.6 miles without stopping to stretch my aching feet. But after some experimenting, I made two key adjustments that changed everything:

  1. Tire Pressure Adjustment: I discovered my tire pressure was at 6 PSI, far too low for my weight. After bumping it up to 18 PSI, the board felt smoother, easier to control, and even improved battery life.
  2. Pushing Through Discomfort: My feet still hurt, but I’ve started building stamina and can ride longer before needing breaks.

Yesterday, I hit a major milestone: riding 3 miles without stopping! It felt like a huge leap from my earlier rides, and I’m finally starting to enjoy the experience more as my confidence grows. With every ride, I’m learning and improving. Adjusting the tire pressure was a game-changer, and I’m excited to see what’s next. Here’s to more progress and fewer falls! Why did I wait so long to do this?

Day 8: more progress

Over the past couple of days, I’ve focused on gaining more experience with the Onewheel, keeping it on the easiest setting as I build confidence and improve my balance. The pain in my feet is finally starting to fade, though it’s now shifting to my leg muscles, which feel sore after each ride—but the soreness is lessening every day. I’m also beginning to push the limits of the board’s 6-8 mile range as I ride longer distances, and while I haven’t surpassed it yet, I can see myself getting there soon. Overall, I’m still thrilled with this purchase—it’s been a fantastic way to learn, grow, and challenge myself with each ride.
